Gospel is about the person Jesus.

So, tell about him. Announce his story.

 

 

According to the String theory, M theory, or Superstring theory, the universe has 11 dimensions. These String theories are beautiful mathematical formula. It is, so far, a mathematical theory which is needed to be proven in scientific laboratory, like CERN. Let’s say that the universe has 11 dimensions. Now, let’s bring the story of Jesus into our conversation. When Jesus was resurrected, was he able to move through different dimensions? The resurrected Jesus didn’t need to use a door. We know that when his students were out of fear and locked all the doors, Jesus was able to appear in that room. Jesus was like a radio wave, moving without being bothered by physical walls. To two students heading Emmaus Jesus also disappeared and appeared. (Luke 24: 13-35) Jesus must have been able to travel another dimension easily. Here are some examples from the gospel of Luke, chapter 24.

• 36 While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, "Peace be with you." 37 They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost. 38He said to them, "Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? 39 Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have." (NIV)
• 50 When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them. 51 While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven. (NIV)

Reading the last verse, we may have a question. Is Jesus ascended to another dimension? Is there a spiritual dimension within these 11 dimensions? No. All 11 dimensions are still physical worlds which some of them we don’t see. God is spirit. God is even mathematically unseen. Christ is governing all those dimensions and living as spirit. Christ is the One, through whom all those dimensions are generated. (John 1:1-3) If you want to know more about the Superstring theory, I would point to these DVD. Here I am trying to engage the story of Jesus (especially with the gospel of John) with science.
According to String theorists, our universes have 11 dimensions. If we can see what is unseen, we may be able to observe more of these other dimensions. Maybe if we can free ourselves from time and space, we may be able to see 11 dimensions, too.

John, the evangelist wrote, “Through Jesus, the world is created.” (John 1:1-3) John was saying, “Everything (even time) comes to exist because of Jesus.” “Jesus came into the world that he made. Jesus came into the people he had made because he loved them. …And to those who let Jesus into their hearts, Jesus gives them the authority to be the children of God: the children who were born right from God…” Many scientists agree about the big bang theory, but scientists do not know what causes the big bang. Was it God’s creating process? Was it created by the Word of God, as John said? That is to say, was the big band created through Jesus?
We are still finding more small particles. String theorists predict a vibrating string may exist within each particle. But it is possible that within each vibrating string, there may be more components (even smaller than particles or a vibrating string). If then, our search will continue. When will we know how small the basic element of any matter is?
Scientists observe that the universe is expanding. To where is this universe expanding? Does it expand to all those empty spaces don’t have any form of boundary. When will we know how large the empty spaces are? How does our universe exist in middle of this empty space? Jesus says that he is the alpha and the omega. That is, Jesus is the beginning and the end. John explains that through Jesus, the Word, everything is created. Through Jesus all those empty spaces are created. It is amazing to hear Christ who tells us that the One creates all these, loves us so much gave his only Son, Jesus. Even the smallest element (vibrating string?) is created through Jesus. When I think about these, I am wondering “With what kind of wisdom, has Christ created this universe?” “With what kind of wisdom, Christ gave his life to die; rise again; and save the world. Why was this process so necessary? It is my passion to engage Jesus and science. What do you think about this subject? Feel free to leave your opinion.

Can a graviton really travel to another universe? Or can a graviton exist in two universes at the same time? Amazing possibility! Exciting time!

Jesus knew that the Church is going to be universal. But he didn’t seek it in his life time. Through his ministry, he showed a glimpse of it. His goal was to preach to the Israelites. In this way, Jesus was to make the story: the story of faithful God. And this story is going to be told everywhere.

This story was predicted in the Bible. It wasn’t comfortable for Jesus to live the story out. It was a challenge for him.

Faith 
Faith is a prerequisite for everything Jesus did. Faith is the language of the Kingdom of heaven Jesus mentioned. Faith makes a way into the Kingdom. For this reason, Jesus understood that since the faith is the language now Asian, African, European, and American can come into his Kingdom. They will get their citizenship if they have faith in this kingdom. Since this is the only requirement, it opened a way to diversity in God’s kingdom. Those who have faith enter into God’s kingdom.

But in order to remain in this kingdom, it is very important to strengthen your faith. Because you enjoy the privilege of this citizenship, as you keep your faith. You need to nourish your faith.

How?
Reading the story is important. It is because the story tells you how to live by faith. It tells you about prayer, having a goal, expecting positive future, “Act as if it is impossible to fail,” and “Love in action.” 

When you hope something, you have faith. When you obtain a sense of certainty in your thinking, you have faith. Faith is being certain of your bright and imaginative future. So, faith makes you succeed. Faith moves mountains, according to Jesus. Faith changes things. Faith heals you. Faith makes you walk on water. Faith makes you an heir of the kingdom.

Faith makes Jesus happy. When we understand this language of faith, we join the kingdom of Jesus.

Jesus works toward the reconciliation between God and human beings.
In his time on earth Jesus also wants to reconcile between the Jews and the Samaritans. Their relationship was not so good. They refuse any association with each other. But Jesus, a Jew, wants to reconcile. Jesus frees himself from Jewish costume of avoiding Samaritans. Jesus was free.

In this particular day, Jesus wanted to pass through the Samaritan city to go to ?Jerusalem. (Luke 9: 51-56) At first, Jesus was not welcomed. Jesus didn’t fuss about it. However, the students James and John were really mad and asked, “Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven rebuked them?” Jesus was scared of their thinking, because Jesus was trying to find a way to reach out to the Samaritans.

So, Jesus strongly corrected their way of thinking. And then he led them to another village. But Jesus didn’t give up reaching out to them. Jesus knew they were not rejecting Jesus. They were reacting out of their misunderstanding and the costume that these Samaritans had against the Jews. So, this time, Jesus went to Jerusalem by another way.

Jesus thought about what happened for awhile. Then, Jesus created a story to push through his understanding.

Jesus is going to reconcile every people. So here is the story that Jesus came out with: the Good Samaritan (Luke 10: 25-37). This wonderful story is told when Jesus is asked by a religious scholar. “What must I do to inherit eternal life?” Then, Jesus asked him back, “what do you think? What is your interpretation?” The Jewish teacher got a right answer. He was like, “I know what exactly God wants: love God and love people/neighbors.”[1] Jesus was like, “You summed up nicely the whole thing. Go and do that.” The scholar wanted to talk with him little more. He asked: “how can he practice it? Who is my neighbor? How should we practice this knowledge?”

Then Jesus brought out this story. A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho. But the robbers stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. A religious leader happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. A religious scholar came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a “Samaritan” business man saw him, he took pity on him. He bandaged his wounds. Then he put the man on his own car, took him to the hospital. Since he has to get going, he asked the nurse, “Could you look after this man? This is my number. I will reimburse for any extra expense.”

Then, Jesus asked, “Who is the neighbor of this victim?” The scholar replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”

Does this story explain about who Jesus is? Yes.

Why did Jesus become a human being? Jesus found a way to practice his own law: “compassion” to everyone, regardless to race, social circumstance, and educational level.

It is because of the divine mercy. In order to become a good neighbor to those who needs help. Then, this is a summary of the life of Jesus. Jesus captured the situation where he can exercise his compassion and generosity. If you think that way, an eternal life is being able to live like Jesus. Jesus lives his own words. Jesus is saying “I have lived like this. And I am inviting you to live like this.”

When you think about Jesus leaving the heavenly glory and dwelling among us, it is very small thing to have a loving attitude toward Samaritans. Jesus knew them and loved them. Jesus made this story to tell his life. The Good Samaritan is Jesus himself who is caught in the road to show mercy. Jesus helped out just because the people need his help. We don’t think we are victims who need him badly.

So, Christianity is to be very simple. “Follow Jesus!” What does that mean? It means, “Samaritans are your neighbors. The people of Nineveh are your neighbors. The rich are your neighbors. The poor are your neighbors. Caucasians are your neighbors. Asians are your neighbors. African Americans are your neighbors. Mexicans are your neighbors. Immigrants are your neighbors. Illegal immigrants are your neighbors.” (Luke 10: 30-37)

Since Jesus made a move to be associated with Samaritans. His disciples share the good news with Samaritans. (Acts 8: 25)

[1] He didn’t mention anything about keeping Jewish dietary laws and customs, which the most Jews believed that they should keep them. So, this man had a pretty good discernment and understanding.
